Carter Machine Inc. was established in June 1979 in a 575 sq. ft. garage in Marshfield, VT. Carter Machine Inc. began as a sole proprietorship business owned and operated by Gary Carter. Gary's background included training quality control personnel for General Electric at their Burlington, VT. facility. Later in his career he served as the Quality Control Manager for Mardon Industries of Lyndonville, VT. Shortly after leaving Mardon, Gary decided to start his own business beginning with just a Bridgeport, a lathe and a surface grinder. In only its first year, Carter Machine Inc. became an approved source for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

Gary's sons, Brian and Tom, joined their father's business and upon his retirement, became President and Vice President respectively, of Carter Machine Inc. Brian and Tom continue to operate Carter Machine Inc. based on the strong work ethics and high quality standards taught to them by their father.

With Tom's programming and machining talents coupled with Brian's strong Quality Control background and a common sense approach to business, Carter Machine Inc. continues its tradition of being a highly successful and respected precision machining operation.
